IOWA Football Gamewatch vs. Iowa State – 12:30 PM

Let’s address the elephant in the room…Ball State came to play!  We tried to warn you, and no doubt; Iowa found themselves against the ropes.  Say what you want about its struggles, but Iowa is 2-0.

Tornado warnings have hit all across Iowa this week, and that can only mean one thing; the Cyclones are coming through!  The most anticipated game across the entire state is going down this Saturday at Kinnick Stadium.  Families divide and friendships take a backseat when the Hawks face the Cyclones.

While records are complete opposites, both teams appear to be struggling finding their true identity.  The Cyclones lost a heartbreaker to #20 Kansas State last week, but stood up to the test.  The Hawks on the other hand look good on paper, but have been exposed on the field.  The Iowa State defense clamped down in the second half, and the timing couldn’t be better.

77,000 fans went silent when pre-season All American Brandon Scherff went down to a knee injury.  Scherff returned to a standing ovation, allowing fans to breathe a sigh of relief.  And then came the news that Scherff underwent surgery earlier this week and is expected to miss 2-3 weeks.  When the run game is struggling, this loss stings even worse.  Defensive tackle Drew Ott will in fact play despite being involved in a scooter accident.

Two familiar opponents, and a long season still to go; this will likely be the slugfest most fans are hoping for.  Iowa should have the advantage, but the offense is going to have to stop relying on the defense to keep them in the game.  A roster full of dynamic running backs, shouldn’t struggle to move the ball.  To keep you breaking your laptops, I’ll skip the kicking game.   It’s a fun week for everyone involved, so expect a wild atmosphere and one heck of a game.
