One year ago, Coach Ferentz and his squad were at home, watching all the other teams prepare for their bowl game. Today, the Hawks are in Tampa, Florida; having erased the memories of a horrid season for not only them, but the Hawk faithful as well.
Iowa has a chance to ring in the New Year in a big way, taking on the LSU Tigers in the Outback Bowl. A re-match from one of Iowa’s greatest victories, the infamous Tate to Holloway; something LSU Coach Les Miles will use to rally his troops.
Possibly an underrated matchup, Iowa wants nothing more than to upstage its SEC counterpart. The Hawks are on the verge of steering the ship right again, and a win will propel Iowa right where they want to be.
This bowl is bigger than just pride; each will represent its conferences bragging rights in the B1G/SEC rivalry. Expect both teams to be physical, with Iowa continuing to ground and pound with Mark Weisman and Jordan Canzeri. LSU starting QB Zach Mettenberger is out with a torn ACL, so expect the Tigers to feed Jeremy Hill, who’s widely considered one of the best backs in college football.
