Iowa Gamewatch #6: October 05, 2013 Iowa vs Michigan St. at 9:00 A.M. – No Raffle

Floyd of Rosedale stays in Iowa City for another year, after the Hawkeyes stormed into Minnesota; coming away with a convincing win against the Gophers.

The Michigan State Spartans enter the pink locker room of Kinnick Stadium with a 3-1 record. The Spartans boast one of the best defenses in the nation; particularly great at stopping the run.

Iowa is suddenly becoming a dark horse in the wide open race for the Legends division. Many expected Iowa to struggle out the gate, but the solid play from quarterback Jake Rudock and running back Mark Weisman have given Iowa’s offense an identity sorely missing last season.
This will be hard nose Big Ten Football. Hawk fans will forever remember “Stanzi to McNutt…Touchdown Iowa!” But rest assured, Michigan State fans remember as well.

Please join us at either one of the two official game watch Barney’s locations and enjoy 35% of food and 50% of beverages to any Iowa fan who wears something with Iowa on it (offer valid during the game only). There will be no Raffle this weekend.

If you would like to show your LA Hawkeye pride, then don’t forget to order your LA IOWA Club t-shirt. T-shirts are now in stock and available at the Santa Monica and Pasadena Barney’s Beanery locations! They can be purchased for $15.

Iowa Gamewatch #5: September 28, 2013 Iowa vs Minnesota at 12:30 P.M. – Pasadena Raffle

Iowa closed out their non-conference schedule with an impressive 59-3 victory over the Western Michigan Broncos. Last week’s record setting win, is great way to go into the Big Ten schedule which all starts this Saturday on the road where Iowa will face the Minnesota Golden Gophers in Minneapolis. Floyd of Rosedale and conference supremacy are on the line as these two long-time rivals square off in what looks to be a good old fashioned smash mouth football game.

The Gophers come into the game with a 4-0 non-conference record having piled up 1,129 yards and 16 touchdowns on the ground. Minnesota’s rushing totals rank 13th nationally, averaging 282.3 yards per game. Compare that with the Iowa defense which gives up just 91.5 yards per game on the ground and has yet to give up a rushing touchdown.

The key factor in this game will be how well each respective Quarterback can play and which team can generate more big plays in the passing game. Minnesota’s defense gives up an average of 11 yards per passing play. This is an area that a very efficient Jake Rudock will have to take advantage of to keep Floyd of Rosedale in Iowa City for another year.

Please join us at either one of the two official game watch Barney’s locations and enjoy 35% OFF of food and 50% OFF of beverages to any Iowa fan who wears something with Iowa on it (offer valid during the game only).

Iowa Gamewatch #4: September 21, 2013 Iowa vs W. Michigan at 9:00 A.M. – Santa Monica Raffle / T-shirts in Stock!

Iowa is officially the Hawkeye State for another year.  Fresh off their road win in Ames on Saturday against archrival Iowa State, the Hawkeyes close out their non-conference schedule with a home game versus the Western Michigan Broncos.  The Broncos come in at 0-3.

Iowa looks to keep it going on the ground with Mark Weisman, who’s now rushed for over 100 yards in each of the first three games.  The defense has steadily improved showing an ability to get pressure on the quarterback, but still shows it’s vulnerable to giving up big plays.

For Iowa to seal the victory, they must play to their strengths and run the football.  Will Iowa play with passion?  This lies squarely at the feet of Coach Ferentz, the battle for the state of Iowa is over; and Western Michigan would like nothing more than to catch Iowa looking ahead to the Big Ten opener against rival Minnesota.

Please join us at either one of the two official game watch Barney’s locations and enjoy 35% of food and 50% of beverages to any Iowa fan who wears something with Iowa on it (offer valid during the game only).

This week’s halftime raffle will be at SANTA MONICA. Make sure to check in with one of the hosts for your 1st FREE raffle ticket for some great Iowa gear.  Don’t worry, additional raffle tickets may be purchased at the rate of 2 tickets for $1 on up to as many tickets as you would like!

Iowa Gamewatch #3: September 14, 2013 Iowa vs Iowa State at 3:00 P.M – Santa Monica Raffle / T-shirts in Stock!

A win’s, a win…and that’s what Hawk fans should take away from Iowa’s 28-14 victory over the Missouri State Bears.  No, not the prettiest win; but Iowa more importantly needed to get over the hump and they did just that.

This Saturday all eyes in the Hawkeye State will be focused on the Iowa-Iowa State rivalry in Ames. The Cy-Hawk trophy series isn’t about how you win; the only thing that matters is if you walk out of Kinnick or Jack Trice Stadium a winner.  Iowa faces its first road test of the year, while Iowa State desperately seeks a chance to prove they are better than the 28-20 upset from in-state rival Northern Iowa.

The Cyclones defense is young, and the Panthers exposed that; racking up over 400 yards of offense.  The issue for Iowa…they’re a young team as well.  Jake Rudock continues to show poise and the ability to extend plays, but also shows he’s still learning; throwing ill-advised passes.  Mark Wiseman continues to be a bully on the ground and Iowa will need more of that from him to take the pressure off of Rudock.

This is not just another game for either side; you either bleed yellow and red or black and gold.  Fans take great pride in claiming victory and there’s no love lost between the two.  You can go ahead and throw out the records, stats, talent and everything else we all use to determine the better team.  This series goes beyond that, and the team that bleeds the most passion and fight; will ultimately walk away with the Cy-Hawk trophy in hand and most importantly; the right to claim the state for another year.

Please join us at either one of the two official game watch Barney’s locations and enjoy 35% of food and 50% of beverages to any Iowa fan who wears something with Iowa on it (offer valid during the game only).

Iowa Gamewatch #2: September 7, 2013 Iowa vs Missouri State at 9:00 A.M – Santa Monica Raffle / T-shirts in Stock!

Last Saturday Iowa fans were reminded, that almost doesn’t count…losing their 7th game in a row in heartbreaking fashion to Northern Illinois 30-27.  While the lost stings every Hawk fan, there was certainly reason to believe the season will get better.  The offense showed signs of life, and Jake Rudock was a big part of that.

This week, Iowa focuses on their next challenge; the Missouri State Bears.  This will be the first meeting between the two schools and with both teams coming off close loses, expect both sides to be pumped to claim their first “W” of the season.

Missouri State is led by their Junior Quarterback Kierra Harris, completing 17-of-33 passes for 189 yards last week against Northwestern State.  Much like Iowa, Missouri State struggled to find a consistent offense.

Although Iowa found success on the field, it’s correcting the mistakes that will determine if Iowa will be successful from here on out.  Key factors in this game will be how much improvement Iowa can make from week 1 to week 2.  Iowa’s secondary weakness’ need to be addressed and the offense has to take a step forward and not regress like they did in the second half.
