Ryan will also teach you about modern job search strategies, including the proper use of social media, and how building your brand links to your compensation.

In this presentation, you will learn:

    • Steps to discover your personal brand
    • How to Integrate your personal brand online
    • Why creating content is great for your career
    • How to use social media to engage with hiring managers

Do you want to be more marketable? Do you want to be compensated as well as possible for what you do? Do you want people to remember your name and show a preference for your services? Don’t miss Ryan Rhoten’s How to Build Your Brand Online seminar.
Presenter: Ryan Rohten

Not long ago, I was just an ordinary Ryan. I got up in the morning, drove an hour to work, came home, played with my children, went to bed, got up and did it all over again.

But I had this nagging feeling I was meant to do something more with my life.

It was this feeling that motivated me to start my personal branding journey. Going through the process I realized a couple of key things. First, we all have a brand, whether we know it or not. Second, if you take the time to build you brand, you can get back to doing work that matters to you.

For that to happen, you need to start actively building your brand.

As a part of my personal branding journey, I decided to Google myself. That’s when I discovered I was one of four Ryan Rhoten’s in the world and I wasn’t anywhere to be found on the first three (3) pages of Google search results.

Can you guess who was on page one, four times? One of the other Ryan’s of course, but not just any one of them, it was the one who had been recently arrested…again.

Anyone searching for me online back then, would have him NOT me.

I vowed at that moment to never again leave my brand, my reputation, in the hands of others. Instead, I would learn to build my personal brand online and help as many other people as possible do the same.

More than just an online presence

Today, I’m happy to report that on any given day I own page one when you Google my name. The ‘bad’ Ryan? He’s solidly on page two now.

That didn’t happen by accident. It took hard work, a lot of research and very intentional actions on my to start building my brand.

You can do the same using a 4 step process I call D.I.C.E.

Anyone searching for me online back then, would have him NOT me! Like your credit score – you need to monitor your brand!

Basketball Game Watch: Iowa vs. Maryland

What: Iowa Hawkeyes vs. Maryland Terrapins
When: Saturday, February 25, 2017, 3:00 p.m. Pacific time
Where: Barney’s Beanery (Santa Monica location only)

Come watch Fran McCaffery and the Iowa Men’s Basketball team take on Maryland this Saturday at Barney’s Beanery in Santa Monica!  Make sure you wear your Iowa gear for 25% off food and drinks during the game!
Led by senior Peter Jok, the Hawks have seen it all this year; some lows and some promising highs!  The NCAA tournament is unlikely for this year’s team, but McCaffery has put together a solid recruiting class, and there’s more help on the way.  Maryland is one of the hottest teams in the Big Ten, and Iowa nearly pulled off the huge win a few weeks ago.  As the Big Ten tournament begins, every team wants to hit their stride and Iowa is no different.  The Hawks put on quite the show to a national audience on ESPN handling the Hoosiers at home, and that’s just the kind of win to get a team rolling.  A strong finish puts the Hawks in the thick of earning an NIT bid, and pulling off the upset and winning a Big Ten title would just be mind-blowing.
The top level of Barney’s Beanery will be reserved for Iowa fans, so head out and talk hoops with your fellow So Cal Hawkeyes!  If you can’t make it on Saturday, don’t worry; we’ll be back at Barney’s Beanery on Sunday March 5th as the Hawks take on Penn State.

“Your True Colors”

Wednesday, February 8, 2017, 5:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Pacific time

We are surrounded by color – yet not everybody realizes that our minds and bodies are constantly reacting to it. That means that the colors you wear, the colors you live around, and the colors of your logo, business card, website, and packaging all matter.

In this webinar Catherine, author of Your True Colors will draw on 25 years of experience of color psychology to introduce you to some of the core concepts that shape your world.

You will learn:

    • The definition of color psychology and why it matters
    • How color psychology is applied in branding, interior design, and personal clothing choices
    • Specific information — such as why using certain colors in your studies could help you learn better
    • How even the blind respond to color
    • The use of color as a sales predictor for DVD packaging

Sometimes little things – like color — can have a very big impact on our lives. Even better, when you know about the psychological dynamics that affect people’s moods and actions, you can use them to improve your own life and career. So, if you would rather have color working for you—rather than against you — then this webinar is just for you.
Presenter: Catherine Shovlin

After a first career in oil and gas, covering 50 countries and 9 jobs, Catherine decided to take what she had learned and combine it with who she really is.

In the last 12 years of working independently she has engaged with groups as diverse as dementia patients, adolescents in residential mental health care, boards of blue chip industrial organisations and strategy managers in NGOs.

In all of this work she applies two fundamental principles. Everybody has a valid point of view and everything is connected. Most recently that has involved collaborating with over 20 different organisations and individuals to lead a community empowerment project in a Syrian refugee camp bringing together art, behavioural research, colour psychology and well-being impact measurement in a tough context. A personal and professional challenge that is part of her constant quest for better understanding of how to grow human spirit in organisations and communities.

In the area of color psychology, Catherine has spoken at marketing and design conferences, written a book “Your True Colors” and worked with clients in the energy, entertainment and good industries as well as public services (health, education and libraries) and charities.

She lives in London with three teenagers, two dogs and a lot of butterflies.
