Iowa Basketball Gamewatch – NIT Championship vs. Baylor 6:00pm

2013 NIT Championship Basketball Gamewatch vs. Baylor – Barney’s Beanery Santa Monica

Thursday April 4th  – 6:00pm

The Men’s basketball team took care of Maryland in the NIT Semifinals 71-60, never relinquishing the lead after trailing 4-0 early. Next up is Baylor for the NIT Championship! We had great numbers for our Final Four Gamewatch vs. Maryland and let’s keep the momentum going and get a great crowd for Thursday! Gametime is 6:00pm sharp. Barney’s Beanery has Happy Hour food and drinks until 7:00pm so come out and show your support!

Iowa Basketball Gamewatch – NIT Final Four vs. Maryland – Tuesday April 2nd

Hawkeyes are Going to NYC!

The Men’s basketball team is headed to NYC to play in the mecca of basketball, Madison Square Garden to play future B1G foe Maryland in the Final Four of the NIT! Fran McCaffery’s squad has continued to improve this season and is peaking at the right time with the leadership of their scorer Roy Devyn Marble. The Hawkeyes are currently sitting at 24 wins in 2013, the most since the 2005-2006 season where that team finished with 25. Excitement is back in the program and now is the time to come out and show your support!

Gametime is approximately 30 minutes after the end of the first game (around 6:30 pm). We hope to see you there!

Comedy Night at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre

The Los Angeles Iowa Club would like to invite you to a comedy night on Thursday March 14th. Former Iowa Alumni Neil Campbell and Paul Rust will be performing Live at the Upright Citizen Brigade Theatre (5919 Franklin Ave., Hollywood, CA 90028). Their sketch comedy act was named “Best Improv Show” by LA Weekly Best of LA Issue, 2012. Showtime is 11:00pm and tickets are only $5.00. You can purchase tickets here! Come on out and show your support to local Iowa Alumni!

Hawkeye Spotlight: Neil Campbell and Paul Rust

In our first installment of “Hawkeye Spotlight”, Isaiah Scales interviewed natives of Fairfax, Virginia and Le Mar, Iowa; Neil and Paul’s comedy paths would meet at The University of Iowa.

NEIL: “We actually met at a show called “No Shame Theatre.”  I was hosting a set and Paul came and did it and he did a bit that I thought was really funny and told him he should keep doing the show.”

PAUL: “I had seen Neil do about a months’ worth of stuff and I thought it was really funny, so to get encouragement from people that I was admiring at the time, encouraged me to keep doing it.”

The writing duo eventually found their way to Los Angeles still trying to find their niche. Continue Reading →

Iowa Basketball Gamewatch vs. Northwestern – Saturday February 9, 1:30pm

If you missed our first Basketball Gamewatch, we are going to hold our second Basketball Gamewatch Saturday February 9th against Northwestern, 1:30pm at Barney’s Beanery in Santa Monica.

Date and Time: Saturday February 9, 1:30pm

Location: Barney’s Beanery Santa Monica

Deal: There will be no deal for the gamewatch. However, showing up in large numbers in support of the LA Iowa Club, Iowa Basketball, and Barney’s Bearnery will help make future gamewatches a huge success!

Future Events: Please keep an eye out for other LA Iowa Club events including comedy night in March, Blood Drive in April, Beach Party with volleyball in May, and a Dodgers Game in June or July.
